well, i ran in the Broad Street Run in philly yesterday. its a 10 mile run all the way down broad stree through the city, past city hall, past the stadiums and ends at the naval center. didnt get a whole lot of training in the last month and the most i have run at once in training was about 8 miles but i finished the race yesterday! the time when i crossed the finish line was 85 minutes but it took me about 4 minutes to get to the starting line so my official time was about 81 minutes which isnt too shabby....if youre wondering why it took me so long to get to the start, its cuz there were 10,300 runners. it was pretty damn cool, the street was filled for as long as you could see....anyway my muscles arent too sore but my knees were pretty sore and slightly swollen (i have bad knees from years of running and basketball)..ill be back out in a few days after i ice my knees for a while and get them feeling better

I did that too....I started off at the edge of the sidewalk, got bumped, ran into a tree, bounced off and landed in a cafe, ordered a drink, and watched the rest on TV... :P

actually your coach was right, it really is a sprint...i ran xc for 6 years in junior high/high school and was always used to those distances...consistently ran low 17's and mid to high 16's (depending on the course)...went to nationals twice for xc, went to states 4 times for track (800, 4x800 and 4x400)...then i went to college and took 4 years off...its now been about 5.5 years since i left HS and im just finally getting back into the running again and realizing how much i loved it although its taking a little longer to get back into it, still havent gotten the hardcore mentality i used to have...i dont think i could count on both hands how many times ive thrown up on the course/track mid-run!! but its gradually coming back and hope to get down to the 18's by june...i need to get to a track and do some speed workouts!

gl with the xc though zell, its definitely a fun sport that not many people really appreciate...and stick with it, no matter how many meals you lose afterwards!

I can't let a running thread go by without commenting!! High 15's and low 16's is a great 5K time Red! I didn't start running 'til I was 37 so I'll never know how fast I could have ran. My fastest times follow....

5k 17:33
10K 38:50
25K 1hr.41:__
Marathon 3hr.02:03 (5 chicago marathons, 2 Trail marathons, 2 Boston, 1 Detroit, 1 Columbus, 1 Disneyworld)
50K 3hr:55.__
50 mile (road) 6:hr55.__
50 mile (trail) 7hr:30.__
100K forgot (have to look that one up !!)
100 mile 20hr15min (3 other 100 mile runs - 23hr15 23hr 18 and my last one was in the sierra nevada's Squaw Valley to Auburn....22,000 feet of Ascent and 18,500 feet of Descent 28hrs 15min. That one was a bastard !!!! For my training runs every weekend I would do at least a marathon (26.2 miles) usually 2 - one saturday and one Sunday.

I think I got burned out because I havent ran much at all for 3 years now....serious motivation problem goin on!!!!

Zell you're from california aren't ya? The name of the run I did there is called the Western States 100mile Endurance Run....Ever heard of it ?

...Anyway red good luck in your training.....let me know if ya have any questions

not too bad zell, how old are you? in my prime i ran a 0:50 400m and a 1:51 800m

it just comes with a lot of practice...my team went to states for boththe 4x400 and 4x800 4 years in a row cuz we had 4 guys that could run those times...not too shabby

Way to go Red Gummi Bear! :jammin:

The only way you'd get me to run a mile would be to dangle a brownie in front of me the whole way.

I seriously admire anyone who can run like that, but I never enjoyed running for the sake of running.
