heh, the folder freezing thing is probably caused by any *.url files in the folder,
you may have picked up a few if you have been downloading er, lots of files :-)
winblows will go to each url and look for a custom icon,
easiest fix is to go to the directory in a dos box and either do a move or delete
(del *.url or mov *.url urls)

second one is that your browser has been hijacked by some website
that offered a click here for whatever dialog box.
you can try looking for uninstall routines in the control panel, and after that
get spybot search & destroy and or ad-aware. a google search will get you the urls.

let us know if those worked.

I dunno. I thouht those questions were pretty potent. :P

Yeah, what Jim said. There was a thread somewhere before about stuff at the top of Google (or maybe it was Yahoo) that wasn't supposed to be there.

What OS?

Have you tried scanning the drive? You might need to surface scan it. We had similar problems here at work. It degraded into tens of thousands of bas sectors (harddisk head was hitting the platters).

We had to replace the drive.

Grab adAware from download.com and run it.
