Anybody in here knows a good online strategy game where u have to have a strategy to win and not win by the mass of units?

best would be round based with a limited number of units

WC3 would be perfect for you. It limits the number of units you can have at one time and requires a bit of strategy and it's also alot of fun.

Go run to the store at top speed and reserve Age of Mythology. Stop asking questions! Just GO!

Cool, Slash. Thanks for the link. Although I don't get to play online I LOVE strategy games....consider myself quite good at them actually. Now maybe I can test that theory online!....

I will. DirtGod and I were just talking about how we should get a game going while at work....not that we would do that during working hours or anything....

I know the WarCraft series involves strategy. I liked it, but now that I have SS and UT03, I like those better. Maybe some day I will have a flash back and play it again, if I remember how.

yep but i dont like the Mass Battle Strategy games like C&C series

i more like the games with limited number of units for both sides

I agree. They also have to have enough sophisticated AI to let different strategies actually make a difference in the game...

Sauron

yeah thats a true point too but normally the AI cant win unless it outnumbers u

I'm playing Icewind Dale II, and I hear Neverwinter Nights is pretty good. They are RPG though, not the strategy games I particularly enjoy...

I dunno, I still think Starcraft is one of the best RTS out there...although sheer unit mass does play a huge roll in the gameplay.

Age of Mythology looks great, Warcraft 3 is spectacular.

My favorite strategy games are X-com, Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn, Metal Fatigue, and Ground Control in that order. X-com is ancient, however, and probably not available or playable if you actually do manage to find a copy (and even then, it lacks multiplayer. I mean it's REALLY ANCIENT.). C&C is also pretty old but of such a high quality anyway that I still prefer it over the newer ones in the series. Its multiplayer probably falls into the 'mass of units' type. But it's still straightforward, simple, and FUN. Metal Fatigue isn't nearly as old. It barely runs on one of my older computers. I think it was released two or three years ago. I never tried true multiplayer, but I had quite a few interesting rounds of skirmishes on MP maps against computer players. It's another one that might fall into the mass of units but to the nature ofthe mainstay of the amries (giant robots with configurable torsos and limbs and crews for them of varying experience), there's plenty of strategy in just how to flesh out those numbers, and the three races play quite differently (there's one with strong, slow weapons and heavy armor, another with quick, medium-powered weapons and armor but more mobility, and a third that relies on stealth and and smart tactics with generally weaker armor but very versatile weapons.) and the graphics, music, and especially the story are interesting enough to warrant playing the game. Finally, Ground Control is probably the closest to what you're looking for. It features no building whatsoever. You start with a set number and variety of units and must rely on effective uses of formations and flanking to keep them alive as long as possible. It's probably most like what you're looking for, but I still think you ought to try Metal Fatigue, too. :) (well, you might want to try the other games also but they're probably considered archaic now.)
