I just saw someone doing it yesterday and wanted to know how to do it also. Lastnight I found a few links that explain how, Hope they help you. All you ever want to know about Strafe Jumping can prob'ly be found on one of these links:

Q3C's "Trick Jumping Part 1" LINK (http://www.q3center.com/features/features.phtml?id=118150&language=en)
Q3C's "Trick Jumping Part 2" LINK (http://www.q3center.com/features/features.phtml?id=121190&language=en)
RTR "Strafejump" LINK (http://www.planetquake.com/rtr/tutes_q3_trick_strafejump.html)
Upset Chaps LINK (http://ucguides.savagehelp.com/Quake3/AquaQuake3Guide.html)
Upset Chaps "Why Your Framerate Affects Jumping" LINK (http://ucguides.savagehelp.com/Quake3/FAQFPSJumps.html) (Kinda technical, But prob'ly the best explanation)
PimpJumps Tutorials & Demos LINK (http://www.boxsocial.org/pimpjumps/tutorials.shtml)
BarrysWorld LINK (http://guides.barrysworld.com/quake3/TweakingQ3/)

BTW I use a maxfps of 125

what is the command for the maxfpx 125 Shogun??

Does that change the refresh rate on your monitor?? I don't think mine can go that high

\set cg_DRAWfps 1 Shows your frames per second LINK (http://netsites.barrysworld.net/guides//quake3/TweakingQ3/)

\set com_maxfps 125 Wanna jump high & far? ;) LINK (http://www.quake3world.com/ubb/bgfaq.html#jump) (note: make sure a display refresh rate of 125 isn't harmful to your monitor) With these numbers youŽll reach the highest point while jumping (ie, the maximum distance possible). This is because of how the Quake3 Engine works.

Grimmy i'm using a antique (8 year old) 21" NEC and it can do it @ 1024x768. I'll bet yours can too. I will take FPS over eyecandy anyday

You should be able to do 125 FPS with that setup. Make sure you have the "Sync Every Frame" option turned off. Go to Setup/Game Options it's in there.

Actually, the framerate(fps) is not exactly tied into the monitor refresh rate, so 125 should be safe for everyone. It's just that your card may not be able to reach that consistently. The older cards some of you guys are running will probably not be able to do so. Set your /com_maxfps 125, and from there you'll probably have to cut back on the eye candy. All these can be found in the normal quake setup options. These will help your fps for the most part:
simple items:on
lighting:vertex
marks on walls:off
high quality sky:off

There are a ton of tweaks to boost your framerate, let me get them together and I'll post them for everyone. Like I said, the older cards like nVidia Geforce2's just may not be able to keep up. Quake is a graphically intense game for it's age. I have a Radeon 9000 Pro 128MB, and I get a constant 125fps, no matter what the map. My ex-wife has a Geforce mx400 64MB and it dips into the 80's on many maps.

Oops, meant to tell you all that I'll start my server up for a Quake 3 strafe/ fps clinic right now:
