This guide is not meant to be a complete "All you ever wanted to know about Freezetag" article, But it should help you to get the Ultra Freezetag (UFT) Mod for Q3 setup and running pretty quickly. I'll cover the basics and hopefully you can take it from there. I don't claim to know everything, Remember I just started playing Q3 about 3 months ago thanks to a certain person bugging the heck outta me to try it. Hey Nightflier

About UTF:
Ultra Freeze Tag is a teamplay modification based on Darrell Bircsak's Freeze Tag 1.5. It's just like the game you played as a kid so you should catch on pretty fast. Just shoot the other team, and when they die they freeze. Once you have all the players on the other team frozen at the same time, Your team gets a point and another round will start. To thaw a frozen teammate (a corpsicle), Stand next to him for a while. When your team reaches the round or time limit, The game is over. You get (1) frag point for fragging someone and (1) frag point for thawing someone.

Let's get busy
1 Install Quake 3 Arena :oooo:

2 Download and install the v1.32 point release patch: (Make sure to install Punkbusters when it ask)
v1.32 - Clanbase site LINK (http://www.clanbase.com/miscdl.php?did=606) (Faster)
v1.32 - IdSoftware site LINK (http://www.idsoftware.com/games/quake/quake3-gold/) (Slower)

3 Look in the Q3 setup menu and make sure you have the Automatic downloads (Look in Setup/Controls/Misc) option turned on and have Punkbusters enabled (Look in Multiplayer). Then download the pbweb file from this site LINK (http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=updatepb.php) to your Quake III Arena\pb folder and then double click it to run it.

4 Download the Ultra Freezetag Mod v1.1 Final (This version includes some help, tip & readme.txt files is why i'm using it)
Self installing .Exe version LINK (http://www.planetquake3.net/download.php?op=viewdownloaddetails&lid=1341&ttitle=Ultra_Freeze_Tag_v1.1_Final_(.EXE))

5 These files will change each time they release a new version of the mod. Just come to this step to get the latest version each time. Hopefully this will be easier for you. Good news is they have just made the v1.2 Final, So there shouldn't be any updates anytime soon and all servers should be updating to and running this version. Download these files to your to your Quake III Arena\ufreeze folder. IMPORTANT: For some reason sometimes during downloading these files a .zip extension gets added (example = ufreeze-46core.pk3.zip) Do not unzip these files, Just rename the file deleting the .zip extension and leaving the .pk3 extension.

6 Time to set some settings that will help you be a better team player. Important These need to be done while playing the mod or they won't work. The reason is because you have a regular q3config.cfg file in your baseq3 folder and another q3config.cfg file in your ufreeze folder and it has to edit the one in the ufreeze folder for them to work. The Mod (ufreeze in this case) has to be loaded for it to edit it the one in the ufreeze folder. I used a server that no one was in so I didn't interfere with other players or you can go into spectator mode and enter them.
Team Chat - While connected to the server, Hit Esc, Go to Setup, Controls, Misc. and assign a key to the Chat - Team option. This will allow you to talk to your teammates without the other team seeing what you are saying (Guarded, All Clear, etc....)
Draw Team Overlay - Go to Setup/ Game Options and select a location on your screen you would like for it to be located (upper right, upper left, etc....) This is very handy because you can see things like where your teammates are frozen at so you can thaw them out (Stand beside them for 3 seconds to thaw them), What their strength is, How close they are to unthawing on their own, What power ups they have.
Grappling Hook - Drop down the console (~) and enter /bind e +button5 then hit enter. (I used the e button in this example, But you can use any button not already being used)

Helpful Teamspeak Commands Only your teammates will see and hear these.
Remember: These need to be done while playing the mod or they won't work.
(I used the h, j & k buttons, But you can use any buttons not already assigned.)
I'm Frozen/Someone Unfreeze Me /bind h "vsay_team help;say_team I'm frozen!"
Thank You/Thanks For The Thaw /bind j "vsay_team praise;say_team Thank You!"
I'm on my way/I'm Coming To Help /bind k "vsay_team helping;say_team On my way!"

Other In-Game Comments Everyone in the game will see these.
Remember: These need to be done while playing the mod or they won't work.
(I used the g, n & b buttons, But you can use any buttons not already assigned.)
Frozen-Guarded /bind g say_team Frozen-Guarded
Nice Shot /bind n "say Nice Shot"
Thanks /bind b "say Thanks"

Strategy
Even up the Teams - Try to keep the number of human players even on each team. 3 humans vs. 1 human/2 bots isn't fair. Don't worry you don't lose anything when you switch teams, Your stats tranfer with you.

Get Help - When you are the last unfrozen player (You will hear a warning sound to let you know), Try thawing some teammates instead of fighting. Be sneaky. If you look in the Team Overlay and see one of your teammates is about to thaw by themselves, You might want to sit and hide rather than risking getting into a fragfest and giving away a point to the other team.

Avoid splash damage - When thawing teammates, Try standing on their head instead of standing next to them. This makes it harder for splash damage to hit you and any enemy has to hit you directly.

Grappling Hook - If the grapple is enabled on the server, Learn to use it and love it. You can use it to get to certain spots on the map or to cling to walls (keep holding down the button). Instead of dropping down from someplace high and losing health because of the fall, You can also use it to grapple down.

Play for the team - Instead of thawing by standing next to someone, Shoot them off into space, lava, slime, or death fog whenever possible. You don't get a point for a thaw, but it's much safer and often quicker.

It's a numbers game - It helps to hunt as a group or pack. If one of you gets frozen, The other/s players are there to thaw you. Remember it's a Team game, Not a fragmatch. Let the stronger players lead. If you are leading the way, Remember not to hog all the goodies, Leave a few items for the players that are following you. Because if you don't you might just find yourself all alone just when you need help. :oooo:

Guarding opponents - It's a good idea sometimes to guard frozen opponents because if one of their teammates comes along and tried to thaw them they will be standing still. Can you say easy frag? Also, You might want to position them in a good spot using the machine gun or shotgun so you have a clear shot.

FAQs & Problems (I'll add more as they come up)
Q - How do I switch teams?
A - Hit the Esc key, Go to Start and select the team you want to join.
Q - I get this error message "Mis-typed CD Key"
A - Delete the file called q3key from your ufreeze folder.

Map Packs Extract these to your Quake III Arena\baseq3 folder. (You shouldn't need these to play on the GM server, but if you have them you can play on just about any ufreeze server out there.)
