I am considering buying DAOC. Should I get the Gold edition or the regular? How much is the monthly fee after the first month? Thanks!

Slash,

I am not sure what the gold version represents. Either version will probably be fine, but it there is a combo version that includes the original game with the Shrouded Isles expansion pack, that would be your best deal.

I think the monthly fee is around $12.95 depending on how long you choose to make the subscription (1, 3 or 6 months).

Let us know if you have any more questions especially once you have the game.

It's alright...I've had the Shrouded isles expansion and have only been in that territory twice....the housing expansion is available as a free download.

The Whitehawks are in the Albion Realm on the Igraine server

The color of the creatures name is what they "con" to you. If a creature cons Yellow his is the same level as you and you have a possibility of being killed. If they con Orange, Red or Purple don't mess with them until you get more of a feel for the game or are in a group.

Only go after creatures where there names are blue/green....you shouldn't die.

The colors also apply to your weapons and armor...you should always be in Yellow or better armor.

He is a good site with a load on information: DAOC Stuff (http://camelot.allakhazam.com/)

What kind of character did you create? What's your name?

I created a Highlander Fighter named Yodeller. I can easily create a new one if I need to.

Have fun with the fighter...you can choose your class at Level 5. My first character was a Paladin.

So I just venture off on my own? At what point am I supposed to encounter other players?

There should be tons of other people on. Do a '/who all' and it will list all the people that are online. Do a /who whitehawk to look for someone in our guild. To message someone, type /send <name> <msg>. You can also do /advice and a list of volunteer players will come up that should be able to answer any of your questions.

You can venture off on your own or try to find someone who would like to group with you.

When I started, I just ventured off on my own killing stuff. One great way to start is to ask the NPC's (Non-Player Characters) for a task. Click on the NPC then type /task, they give you something to deliver to someone else or they may ask you to kill something and return to them.

Everytime you advance a level go back to your trainer and speak with him. You'll be able to train in certain areas to improve your character. (it took me awhile to learn this...but right click on your trainer to have him talk to you). It took my a little while to catch on..

I'll be on this evening around 9pm pst. My kids may be on earlier, they can help you out as well. Nighthawk = Arcor, and Cannon Man = Edf

Another helpful tip to grab a copy of a prima guide. Get the one that says New and Updated at the top. Once you do you'll find out about the various monsters that are weak to slash. Fight those and you'll find yourself fighting higher con stuff and killing them easily without losing life. That's me secret for fast leveling even without groups.

And learn to twist your chants. Your groups will love you and you'll live allot longer in PvE and RvR.
