What exactly is this.
I know what it's function is but I am unsure if it is a different OS or an ad-on to XP?

I think it is XP Home with all the media stuff installed and optimized.

Any other opinions? :WTF:

i think that with a remote control (hooked up to an ir port)
you can do stuff like play clips and so forth. i think it is also
optimized for tablet pc's... If I had it, i wouldn't install it.
some pc's are being sold that way, with a remote.

I think they're all right, with Slice the rightest.

XP MCE page (http://www.xpmce.com/)

MS Focus page (http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/expertzone/focuson/mediacenteredition.asp)

It's being pushed as a being all media ready, piping in TV and video, freezing, editing, yada, and other optimizations for that kinda stuff. This phrase bothers me:
"Media Center-ready HTPC for under $1000"

Will they try to use this to sell more "Officially Approved" hardware and apps to unsuspecting customers who just want to send clips and photos of the grandkids? At one point, it was either Office Max or Depot that was to have all non-"XP Ready" computer products off their shelves....it just smacks of Bill marking territory like Riley, my dog, does.
