i ve heard that there's a bug in some 9700 cards.

your computer wont boot in some cases if you have enabled AGP8x.

you can fix the bug if you reduce the the AGP-speed

I got one last week. Some problems with D3D in UT2K3, but none with OpenGL. FPS around 100 most of the time in SSSE with SSSE set to quality. Had to find lastest drivers, of course.

next year games will have to run on cards that kick out the toy story look, ATI made that leap with the 9700, will GE and NV be able to do it????? John Carmack, in august at quakecon said his next games will be done with high level shading, and the cards will just have to deal with it, I know my puny radeon all in wonder will not barely push stadium in UT 2003, more ram is nice,,,, but will not make a chip read the design if it is not programmed or able to read them, or fast enough to kick out the calcs, so 1 gig of ram is nice, but with 8X agp at what 3+ gigs a sec, it might bottle neck the cpu,,,,,, I would wait and see what is said, I bet the high ram is just to sell it and make it sound fast, me i will wait for PCI express and higher bus speeds before i upgrade.......IMHO.....

Nvidia all the way baby! I will wait, NV30 may only be 20% faster but it will be worth it.

it is indeed not the grafics card which slows down games
R8500 and higher
Gf4Ti and higher
are all fast enough for all games
true 128MB versions are gonna be requiered soon but these all have 128 versions

It really is agp bus which needs to be 8x and enhanced properly
like the connection between chipset and agpslot OR cpu/chipser OR mem/chipset OR hdd/chipset

Yep people if not all other components can transfer the neccessairy bits and bites it will not help at all to have the worlds best grafics card.

though I would love to have me a 9700pro 256DDR with extra coolingsinks on instead of me GF4Ti4200 special double sided silver edition 128DDR

i picked up an ati9700 and feel the card is great for the price and the performance is great also. i like that the prices are good 305 is what i paid for mine considering gforce4 was 400 for over a year. i like the nv boards but right now ati is the champ. i will never switch my processors though amd rules and great prices and performance.

I heard around $400, errr, $399, but I don't count the buck. Interesting, the same as my Radeon 9700 Pro. :D

Oh, and Slice, my other 3 systems have Nvidia...hehehehe
