This is part of a Article from Tom's Hardware from Lanwar 20:

UT2K3 - The Battle To Be Number One Rages On

The UT2K3 DM Tournament at LANWAR 20 got off to a slow start, according to the event organizers. Once it got going, however, it picked up steam and finished with a bang. Once the brackets were completely filled, everyone knew by the draw that there were going to be some exciting matches ahead.

Once again, some of the Great White North boys attended and dominated the tournament with the guys from the NE clan in attendance. Hot on the heels of the NE victory at MML2 where NE Toque was crowned the victor, NE seems to be able to continue to come up with a variety of players to present a stiff challenge for those US-based clans.

The stage was set, with Weeja coming in 4th and Smooth Gummibear coming in 3rd. In the finals, we saw a best of three match between the two top players. Seeming to be on a mission, NE ra won in two straight matches, with NE jacanuck coming in 2nd and NE ra taking the title for the Canadians.

Those not familliar with Lanwar, there were 530 gamers there

Nice work Smooth! :jammin:

Now I'll smile a little wider when I pop a cap in yo ass! :w00t: http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/shootd.gif

Thanks guys!

Basically you just sign up. There isnt a "qualifier" like there is in the CPL or WCG. There were 64 (I think) people in the tournament. Since LanWar is such a big name in lan parties.. it draws some pretty good players.

This past June at MML2, there were 64 people with lots of top talent because they were giving away money. You play a 15 minute "Free For All" with 8 people times 8 servers (64 people)

Then based on how you do(only top 4 from each server move on) you get seeded 1-32

1 plays 32, 2 plays 31, etc

I managed to get the number 2 seed somehow. I'm usually not that great at FFA's. I ended up placing 9th.. one spot out of the money :( Lost in overtime.

This past Lanwar, there wasn't as much talent (cuz no money), but still 64 people. I got the number 2 seed again, and got to the final 4. Got beat by the guy who won it all. <NE>RA

I got a bronze medal, so it was pretty cool.

For all of you who are old enough to take trips.. if you live ANYwhere near Louisville, KY (Red and Yellow drive 12 hours), then you need to make the trip. LanWar is already an awesome event, coupled with the fact that you guys would be hanging with us (going out to eat, hotel fun, etc) you would have a great time.

Yeah lanwar is awesome. It would be really cool if you guys attended one sometime. Might be quite a drive though. Although I can't believe the <NE> Guys come from Canada.

Thanks for the 411 Smooth

One of the reasons I decided to build a Mini system was so I could hit a few of the Lanwar lans. I've been trying to encourage a couple of the {DS}guys to make the trip. {DS} has 2 members about 4 hours from there and it's 13-14 hrs for me  But Yellow's been filling me in on what it's like and he said I could rent or borrow a monitor there and the peeps there are quite helpful if you give them a heads up before hand.

I know there's one in January, but that drive would SUCK in the winter so I'm eyeballing these:

Lanwar 22 *** April 03, 2004 *T ******* 200 Seats Available*

MillionManLan 3 *** June 24, 2004 *T ******* 1500 Seats Available

April's is a maybe, but MM3 is a planned vacation :w00t:

with the fact that you guys would be hanging with us (going out to eat, hotel fun, etc)
If you guys are half as much fun outside the server as you are in the server :w00t: :jammin: :w00t: :jammin:
