SERIOUS SAM 3 FIRST SCREENSHOT!

This is Sam's new nemesis, devastatin' dave, the turntable slave (also known as the cyberslave according to er....Kazaa).

Croteam decided to take a new direction with the 3rd incarnation of the series. In a press statement from "some croteam guy", they gave away some of the inspiration behind SS3.

"Some Croteam Guy" : Uh, so yah, we were all like, playing Baldurs Gate 2 man, and it was sweet, so we thought we would put tonnes of RPG stuff in, like stats n' ****. I mean, who doesn't love stats. Serious Sam 3 will also feature brand new, original enemies called "ORCS" and "GOBLINS". We also love star wars, who doesn't? So Sam doesn't use guns any more, but an original invention we have dubbed the "Bright Saber" (working title).

Gone it seems, is the First Person view, instead a far more sensible isometric side scrolling view has been implemented. Also, Croteam claim, there are many interesting new mini-games in Sam 3. "Yeah, chess is definitely a major one" quoted one of the developers, "along with some side scrolling sections which will blow your mind. The decision to implement these was a tough one, but we all agreed that they were done so well in Enter the Matrix".

Lastly, Croteam hinted at some of the new enemies and locales present in Sam 3, "British run down inner city areas, where Sam will take on, in addition to Orcs and Goblins, a variety of knife wielding pregnant teenage mothers, knife wielding teenage gang members, knife wielding wannabe english rappers, and magical toast".

Serious Sam 3: Fights in the Old Republic, is billed for March, 2004.

Croteam have announced the second set of arenas in Serious Sam 3.....in the deceptively tranquil Valleys of America and Canada, Sam will come up against the terrifying power of Devastatin' Daves ultimate guards, the Amish Country Church Parish Choir.

(Yes, that is Metallica's James Hetfield, back row, middle).

(Also back row, right is an Amish plumber known to some as Mario).

Didn't Croatia sink or something? How come one never hears anything of this 3rd world place? Anywho, Sam 3 (which is really Sam 2 because of Croteams amazing marketing skills :rofl: ) will probably be just as crappy as the first 2. Why would I want to sign up for beta testing? I had to pay for a cd with a so called complete game from this company while it was still in its beta stage. Croteam should sell out and close their doors for good. I will not be buying another game from them. If they come up with a good game in the future I will consider the last game I payed for as an advance for the next release and aquire a copy.

I don't know about some of the gameplay changes you mentioned. I'm a big fan of first person shooters. (Brought up on Dos version Quake and Doom) Side scrolling action does sound like an interesting change though. Here's hoping the gibbing is just as hillarious as the first 2.

And ya, what's with the name? Why isn't it the Third Encounter?

ss:se was an extension of ss:fe. they use the same game engine and so
forth, fe updates to 1.05, se updates to 1.07, so minor changes.
for ss2, that will have a new engine, blah, blah, blah. maybe even the
patch.
