 I hate ZA, had uber problems with it when I got a router. Hope to like the little messages that pop up saying so and so IP just tried to ping you. That is when you are in game, it kicks ya out.
Spend $20 and get a router, uninstall ZA.

I run ZA on both the server and my main rig and have no problems at all.
You can turn off the messages and tell it what programs to run. theres alot of settings to play with. Yes it can drive you nuts if your not familair with it

If you're still interested in software firewalls, check out Kerio's Personal Firewall (http://www.kerio.com/kpf_home.html)
It works quite well, much better than zone alarm, IMO, very straigt forward and professional. The only down side is that it doesn't play friendly with ICS so if you need Internet Connection Sharing for other computers to connect to the net, I wouldn't recommend it.

That was the problem I had. Had ZA and a router with firewall and they conflicted with each other. Was very weird, I couldn't surf the net, but I could chat with Bigg on msn messenger, who helped me fix the problem. :D
You say router with dial up, well you don't really need a firewall as no hacker would spend the time waiting for stuff on such slow bandwidth. Way better for them to go after someone with high speed.

i wont even bother discussing these software firewall programs. i will say tha if you are running windows xp, sp2 will be released very soon and when it is, there will be better firewall support and many fixes to protect you. i have been beta testing this sp2 and see it as an improvement to the security holes. i will say that sp2 may seem abit tricky and wil actually stop some programs that go out to the web but once you configure it to your specification, you will be ok. oh and if you are on broadband and do not have a hardware firewall, you are nuts. also if you have a hardware firewall, please configure it to your correct specifics because you can be defeating the purpose.
thats all i have to say about that
