I tried to play Sam tonight and within 2 seconds of the game my entire system locks up.
I have the latest drivers for my ati 9000 pro video card: 6.13.10.6218
WTF do I do now. beside get a new card.

Have you run a graphics benchmark program on it to see if it can make it through? It would be good to know if it is just SS that locks, or if it is a common issue with other graphics intensive apps.

It is set to open gl.

Are you trying to use TrueForm, or whatever it is called? If so try turning it off. I thought I read somewhere that the 9000 doesn't support it.

But that doesn't make any sense, because you were using this same card in your other computer without any probs, right?

Then it is more than likely a driver issue. 3dmark is mainly bassed on DirectX. Try running Sam in Direct3d mode and see what happens.

*cough*ATI blows goats*cough*

Are you using a different driver now? If so you might try the older one.

EDIT: Doh! Machine beat me to it. :P

But you should be able to play using OpenGL. SS doesn't run as fast using DirectX. You still might try using an older driver.

Sirc.
I am gonna try to uninstall and reinstall my video drivers.
I have not noticed much of a slowndown though.
Maybe 1 or 2%.
But the graphics on this card are great.

Smartass. :P

Seriously though, I have found, as have others, that some of the nVidia driver releases didn't work as well as a previous release. So I just stuck with what I had until the next release.

I don't know that much about ATI and thier drivers.

Don't know if this will help, but you might try going to ATI's control panel and setting every tab to its default. There should be a default button on each tab's display. Then set SS to opengl and speed.

The above is a guess and not a true answer.

Hope...Hope....Hope...

LISTEN!!!! ok i got your attention...

.05 make sure you have downloaded latest drivers before you do this and have ready after done also while doing this disable antivirus software and be logged in as administrtor not you with admin rights
1st uninstall all ati drivers and when it sks you to restart do so but click on f8 button so you can get into safe mode without networking and than boot up in safe mode.
2nd gotot c: and delete all ati folders there
3rd when you delete all that go to tools in same window and choose tools and choose foler options\
uncheck hide system files and make sure you can view all hidden files.
4th-goto search and choose all files---type in ati in the file section ans chooses search.
5th delete all ati files in there and if unsure if it is part of your video card just right click on it and look at version tab and it should mention ati technologies. the proble with ati is the files get corrupt if you install over the old drivers. this is where nvidia is better.

6 reboot and install new drivers.

No more than any other graphic driver I've seen, including Nvidia, 3DFX and now ATI.

They are all a pain in the #$%.

I've never once had to uninstall an Nvidia driver before installing the new one. I have even gone back to older drivers and not had any problems. I've never had any problem in any game with a Geforce based card and I've had about 6 of them.
