I hope this isn't a ".0" version that quickly needs some major patch, but here it is. DirectX seems pretty solid through it's versions, though, so it should be good.
However, I see that the regular DX homepage offers 8.1 still. 9.0 is not offered as a 'beta', or 'release candidate', though, so use your own judgement.

I think I will wait.

Thx

That's my take on it. The version I have now serves me well, so waiting back to see if it has concerns or not is an easy choice.

I installed it tonight. So far, so good. Let you know. I also installed ATI's New Catalyst 3.0 drivers. They are also working so far. :woot:

Is there really any advantage to have DirectX 9.0 if you don't have games that use this?
And if there is a game that does use 9.0, isn't it included in the installation process? :)

I´ve installed it already, too

But i´ve no advantage with it
(cuz i´ve only a directx 8.1 Graphics card...)

Well, That's the real question. I'm sure there are some benchmarks out there, but a quick search yeilded nothing. Some say the speed benefits will be small, and that it 'isn't ready', and will cause problems. Refer to the Inquirer article here.

For anyone who wants it, however, I would strongly recommend that you get the whole install file for installation instead of the 'web installer' stuff, and that whole file can be had from MS here:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/d...dx90_redist.exe (http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/d/8/6d8af880-c050-455c-9536-4a04725db85f/dx90_redist.exe)

The web installer isn't as sure as loading it from your own HD, IMO. If it is problematic, it will likely have a quick follow-up. ATI has released their new drivers, the Catalysts, which can be had here, and are made for the 9.0 DX.

Nvidia is gearing up for teaming it's new NV30, the GeforceFX with 9.0, due to hit shelves in February or March.

As far as games having it with them, not unless they came out in the last week, but yeah, none that I know of have code written to take advantage of it. So, a wait-and-see approach is the prudent one, as with any new drivers.

I have it on my system. I haven't noticed anything. No unexpected reboots.
