I just upgraded from Win 98se to XP home. I installed the scanner software, says XP on cd, then re-started the computer. Then I plugged in the scanner and XP found the scanner, installed the drivers. and the scanner just started scanning and wouldn't stop until I pulled the USB cord. I fully updated XP before I installed the scanner and didn't find any updated drivers on the web. The scanner is 1 year old. Microtek 4800. I tried plugging the scanner into the ports on the Mobo and to the self powered Belkin hub as well. Any ideas from the big brains?

This may sound dumb, but did you install the drivers EXACTLY per manufacturers instructions? That does make a difference sometimes. Like installing the drivers before hooking anything up and other strange crap like that?

Yup, software first, then restart, then plug in scanner.

You might try and go here, Microtek Technical Support: ScanMaker 4800 (http://www.support.microtek.com./~admin/ts-sm4800usb.htm), see if your drivers are as current as what they have. Otherwise, I'm at a lose. Sounds like you did everything right.

Just did and bawling bandhead bawling . Still sucks! Sent e-mail to no-tech support and hopefully they'll respond. Otherwise I might kick it!

Not really, unless I bring it to work, but those are iMacs. I might do that.

Don't do that, it will only confuse you. Mac's are a strange creature....they are mystical beings, like unicorns, they bring joy and enlightment to all....

Not really, they suck. You should try on another PC.

did you uninstall the win98 drivers from the system before you upgraded to xp? if not goto folder options and dunhide hidden and system files--then do a search on the system files of your scanner and delete them----after all deleted download latest drivers for your scanner--------most of the time winxp does not need the drivers for most scanners and do a winupdate to see if they have certified drivers for your device.
