Oh boy here we go again!
Hate to tell u this dan, but join the club. almost 70% of the people that bought this game have had a problem with it.
http://dreamcatcherinteractive.com/forums/...p?s=&forumid=60 (http://dreamcatcherinteractive.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=60)
Check out the Pk tech support, and see if any of everyone elses problems is the same as yours, or just post another thread.
The only thing i know is that mine works fine, and if u wanna get together on AIm or something ill be glad to help if i can, SAL will probably be a much better resource tho!
GL dan and i hope u become as pro in this one as u are in ssam! :w00t:

thx for the help EXE, but i even dowloaded this "Quick Fix" (http://dreamcatcherinteractive.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=16772) but it it still gives me the same problem!!!! wtf, i buy a game and the developers make it incompatible with a perfectly un-tp-date computer :bandhead:

OK. I'm normally 100% against this, but since you have bought the game and the devs made this such a pain in the ass, here is the no-cd crack which will fix this game.

Un RAR the file using WinRar and make sure the 4 files it extracts are in your /Dreamcatcher/Painkiller/Bin directory. Click on the exe this creates and it will fix the game by replacing the normal exe with the no-cd version.

Again, we normally do not condone this on the boards but since so many people who bought the game legally are having problems, I'm providing this. I have done it myself with this file so you can be sure its safe. Also, you need a retail CD key to play online so I don't think we are in any trouble here or helping warez in any way.

Have fun.

It might be video card (drivers) related.

I like the game...but I sure didn't appreciate the trouble shooting it required.

I had to take my dvd/cd rom player out of my P4 rig and use it in my Athlon rig, in order to install the game. After that, I had to download the "cd fix" for the game to work with the cd rom player that belongs in the Athlon pc.

When I went to play multi-player, the game locked up on the screen, and the only way I could get out of the game, was by re-booting. Turning off my zonealarm firewall fixed that problem.

There are many upset people at the painkillergame.com forums.

Good luck Dan.....in the words of Bill Clinton....."I feel your pain" :)

Sal your in Big Trouble now as i'm going to have to report you ;)

Just kidding :P

@ DAN:
Your not the only one with problems dude...there are hundreds with your case...just unzip the file that Sal posted and it should hopefully fix the problems you are experiencing...BTW Single player owns and MP at the moment needs a lot of serious attention but some of the bugs/problems will be fixed/added into the up coming patch which should be available on apr. 19 same time the mp demo will be out...

Looks like DC has left us with no other choice, thats probably the best way of adressing the problem. Because there is a list of incompatable optical drives that WILL not run this game, as well as the SafeDisc warez protection (which has already been cracked ) the game has become more of a problem then something for the gamers to enjoy.
 Thanx SAL, that will prolly help a bunch of people that own this game.

Another thing to make sure is that you have you anti-virus auto protect disabled and any firewalls disabled. That may also be causing a problem.

What kind of video card and drivers are you running? Also make sure you have DirectX9 installed. And make sure you have CD3 in the drive...not CD1.

ironically i have the "recommended" video card prodicer, that being nVidia, a GeForce 4400 to be exact. and yeah, i have disc 3 in, but the no cd thing should by-pass that, and yeah, i have direct x9, have for a long time now...

I am having essentially the same problem as Dan. I have no Anti-virus software, I have downloaded both the official CD fix and Sal's CD fix, and nothing is getting the game to execute. My screen turns black, than returns to the desktop.

Sal just so you know, I un-zipped those files to the directory that you specified and ran the .exe, but it still asks for the CD.

The other thing that kinda scares me is that some people were able to play without the "patch", and now that they have installed the patch, they can't play at all..

By the way, I am getting no error messages, or anything like that. Just a black screen and it stops loading.

Hmm..

I don't think it is the Safe Disk that is getting me.

I re-installed and then applied Sal's fix(without adding the official fix), and I don't need a CD to run the game, but it still doesn't load. It just shows a black screen for about 3 seconds and then reverts to the desktop.

When I was looking over some of the system requirements, I realized that I have a 32 MB graphics card(instead of 64 MB). Could that be a reason? All of my other specifications check out, except for that.

What kind of card is it? I think the MX brand of cards have trouble because they lack pixel shaders.

Dan try un-installing the game, and than adding the no-cd patch(do not put the official 1.1 fix on first).

And Sal, I have a Mobility Radeon 9000(laptop card, unfortunately no updates for this card exist, so that could be a reason).

Yeah, I was afraid that this might be the problem. Although I played the demo without any problems, so I figured that I would give it a shot. I'm going to wait until the 1.1 patch comes out on Monday before I even think about selling the game.

I finally got the game going but I thought I'd just remind everyone...make sure you leave in CD3 not CD1. CD3 is the game disk and has been mislabeled both in the game manual and on the disks. :bandhead:

So make sure you have disk 3 in there!
