Our only PC in the office (not mine damn it!!) runs office 2000 and the opperator uses IE to surf.
This machine now has 2 major issues.
1: Can't even go to Google or any other search engine :bandhead: Goes to some abstract default search engine .
2: Pop up adds, tons of them :WTF:
What's the best way to fix these issues? I'd almost like to remove IE and re-install it.

Removing IE won't do anything. Run adaware and delete everything it finds and also install RegCleaner and delete registry keys from ad sites. Also use RegCleaner to clean your startup of everything except the essentials.
...but unfortunately, your PC won't be perfect until you reformat.

alternately grab netscape firebird... this "feature" of IE is the next batch of GD viruses,
be nice if the freaking virus companies recognized that and put out patches...
the damn things add no benefits and they completely clobber IE.
sucks that i am continually having deal with this sh1t on other people computers...

look for your "hosts" file in the windows folder, it sounds like it has been hijacked. What this means is, when you type in google.com or whatever, they have it redirect to some other site. Get ad-aware and spybot as well as Mozilla Firefox.

to top it off, our ISP was down all day :bandhead:
ran addaware, and get this..... 470 found, about 30 were bold type, took 3 runs to cleanse it.
I'll try reg clean next
