ok, Mad Fox gave me the game hearts of iron. We're both on the same sucky dial up connection (we won't go there) but I figured that we're so close, it's be ok. Hearts of iron can go multiplayer over a LAN, so I set up a game and hosted it. Thing is, Mad couldn't see it, it wasn't in the list of servers. What am I doing wrong?

make sure your IP addresses are close to one another

for example:

if yours was 254. 169. 179.0 you would want his to be 254. 169. 179. 1

also make sure that your subnet is the same...usually 255.255.255.0

oh...you mean like playing him over the phone line then...

in that case you have to have the option for a direct ip (or something to that effect) connection ability, and then you have to know his ip address or visa-versa, and then you put the ip in there and it should work...although i have never used that feature of the few games that have it...

i may be mistaken here but to find the ip address of your computer on dial up try this...

1. Go to the run button
2. Type in cmd for command
3. In the black window that comes up type in ipconfig...

then it should display the ip addy

i think i did that once, and it pulled up the IP address for my uncle's old ethernet modem. I don't think it was the dial up IP address. But i'll try it your way. I think i did it differently then.
