As most people know, the NHL will probably have a lockout that will wipe out at least part of next year. There is a new league starting, the World Hockey Association (WHA) and they are stocking their teams with NHL players in the case of a lockout. Today was their first draft and take a look at who was picked:

Detroit has a franchise and they used their first 2 picks on Dany Heatley and Drake Berehowsky. Who knows, we may have a team worth watching this fall if there is no NHL. Another NHL type draft happens soon so hopefully we see some more big names get picked.

I'm still hearing that the NHL may not play at all this year due to financial issues. They say the NHL is costing more to play than it is making in ticket sales and licensed product sales, etc... Networks weren't interested in showing the games as much this past year and they will probably be even less inclined to show them this year (if there is a this year)... What a shame, but as long as there is some kind of hockey to watch, I will be a happy girl!!! :wootrock:
