Anyone use this? I've heard it may be better than LimeWire. Better meaning less ad/spyware and faster dls. Edumacate muh!

no spyware, many clients, great support.
get azureus, probably the best open source client,
works much better than the original client
http://sourceforge.net/projects/azureus/
your ip is very exposed however, so be careful what you download
if you have slow download speeds, you may need
to open some ports so that other clients can make connections
i usually see speeds of 30-90K/s
it is going to be much slower than ftp,
but it's strengths is in grabbing huge files or blocks of files,
600mb + are no problem
so if you are a porndog, you can get more porn
more easily than you can possibly imagine

Its a great program but it sucks up mass amounts of your bandwidth.

Thanks for the info on this, I was told about this a few weeks but wasn't sure if I should try it out...
Funny story about it, at a local ISP (they wouldn't tell me the name of it, but I think there are only a couple in town, so I'm pretty sure I know which one it is), one of the owner's kids worked there and was running bit torrents on a laptop he connected to the main pipe, hogging the bandwidth for all that ISP's customers!

Thanks guys. That's what I wanted to know. And I don't think I'm a "porndog" (whatever that is). Sometimes people call me corny though. ;)

Speed always depends on what you download ( if there are many seeds etc )
The best i ever had were 220 kb/s.
I have this feeling its getting slower though ... some month ago it worked much better. There are too many stupid leechers now, if it goes on like that it will soon be like edonkey :(
As for the ports > I wouldnt use the standard port ( 6969 ) cos some tracker block it. Use another one , eg 45100.
Sometimes youll have to register on a site and then login to be able to download. This is to make sure that u keep a 1/1 ratio.

I've been using bittorrent for over a year now and love it. It's great for the newest anime. I used to use DC++ but found BT to work much better. I have dsl so I run Shadow bittorrent so I can throttle my upload speeds. Why should they get 15k and I only get to download at 12k. Throttle it to 3-4k and my speeds get upto 90k. Then after I finish the download I'll open it back up till I have a 1:1 or better ratio. The thing to look for in a torrent is how many seeds there are. 0 seeds mean you will prolly not get the whole file. (Seeds are people who are sharing the whole file) You still may finish if you are lucky and the peers between them have the whole file. PM me and I'll give you a list of some good torrent sites to check out.

hmmm, i used shadow and never could get it to throttle properly,
it would choke my connection to where i couldn't browse or so anything else
i found azureus works much better...

they serve different purposes. you can easily download 3mb songs with kazaa, no-biggie.
try though a 600 mb video, and that will be a different situation.
bit-torrent is great for grabbing lots of huge files

I think I tried azureus, not sure why I stopped using it.
