FYI - I was setting up my sister-in-law's new Dell laptop last night when I decided to install XP SP2. Everything went well, except for the small fact that SP2 decided to turn the 2.6GHz processor into a 311MHz one. I did a little searching on the web and it turns out almost all Inspiron laptops have that problem. The fix is to go into device manager, right click properties for the processor, and rollback the driver. Her's is an Inspiron 1150. Other than that all seemed well. Just a warning for any other Dell laptop owners.

Thanks for the heads up. I have an Inspirion myself(600m).

My only question is, why does SP2 change the processor's operative speed?

i never loved that Dell, that name is everywhere here in ireland.

wanna hear any other good thing about Dell? I had 3 HDDs broken of Dell (from cliens) and all of them was dell. I am starting PC, it turns good, at windows startup it stops respond (stops rotating), and giving me reading errors. uhh... how i hate them
my descision - never buy complected PCs, build your own from well known companies
