How did you install XP?
First I would shut down my machine then try reseating my cables everywhere it makes a connection and see what happens. If you still don't see it, then go into the bios setup and check to see if it is detecting it there.

Hi Noldhor
It will be listed with the hard drives. Try switching the cable with the hd asuming your using EIDE. also make sure there pluged in properly the red stripe on the EIDE cable will go twords the power conector. shut down and Unplug your rig first before switching the cables.

Maybe you need the drivers for the CD. Check the company's website.

salvation, I have 5 recovery cds for my windows xp, I used it 3 or 4 times to reinstall my wondiws and never needed to install drivers for my cd-rom. do you think it could be some kind of bug? maybe this time the drivers didnt install properly, I will try it too, thx :)

That might be true for older cd roms but for the most part xp should detect it.
I had a similar problem with a rig and when I switched the cable it was good to go

One thing Nold
Is the hard drive conected to the primary EIDE and the CD to the secondary?
or are you doing a master/slave type of setup?

Well, its not realy old, my pc is a compaq presarion 2.4, I bought it last year. maybe the cd-rom is an older version i dont know but, till now, windows detected it at every installation but not this time lol!
okay in my bios, that is what i see:
master: My HD
Slave: None
master: LITE-ON LTR-482465 (thats my cd-rom/burner)
slave: None
So, i guess im not using master/slave setting, right?
Okay I will ry to switch the cables now:) Hope it works hehe

okay i switched the cables, when I restarted my pc, I saw something telling me that the cd-rom was detected but, it still not working. So it could be the drivers finally?

okay I got something new, when I go in the cd-rom properties, i can see that: windows cant run it because the setting informations in the registry are incomplete or broken...
Something I can do?

system maybe trying to detect os from cd so make sure cd drive is empty when booting.
frag is exactly correct and i would give same advice.
also you should go into bios and see if drive is detected there before booting.

Thx Frag
Switching cables between HD and cd-rom was a good thing too, my pc detected the hardwares, I will remember that:) For the rest, it was just something broken in the registry, with restoration I succeed to repair, thx for helping
