just read this http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=21002 and wonder if any of you have had problems with any of these kinds of problems. i for one will not consider buying this game because of this. i bothers me that these people assume everyone is robbing them yet they game software is not cheap. it amazes me that we use to hear that games go up in price because of the piracy yet the truth is that there is less piracy going on. wil there always be someone stealing the software? i would say yes and there is nothing they can do about it and what they are trying to do is piss the people off like us that actually pay for their ****. i honestly feel that out of the hundreds of dollars i spent this year on games, not one was worth more then 30 bucks and that is even high.

madden 2005-50 bucks--good game but not worth 50 bucks
medal of honorpacific assualt-62 bucks--what a ****ing rip off and a bad game.
daoc-and one expansion--60 bucks pluse 10 bucks for a book i never used and a monthly fee--game should be free if you are paying monthly imo.--
ut--over 40 bucks but dont remember. to be honest it is a game with many games so i wont bitch. besides i suck at it to bitch.
c&c genarals -70 bucks for the two games and they are ok but lacking and easily to get boring.
cod--20 bucks but goes for 30 in the store and is worth every penny because it has multiplayer and single player. ( i bought it at lan war off someone who had an extra unopened legit copy which saved me the trip to the store when i got back to ny and also saved me 10 bucks).
and doom3 which was 60 bucks when i bought it but never installed it and returned it back to best buy because i honestly was fed up with these game prices which imo is sleazy and stealling from the gamers.

after looking at last years game purchases, i think it was me that has been ripped off but can only blame myself. as i see it, not many of the games i bought were really worth it yet i paid for them and made the game companies profit. i really can say that there is not a game out there that will give me the joy of playing constantly with out getting bored. i have to give serious sam credit because it really has been the game after all these years that i keep playing and looking at the price of it, that croteam deserves 2 thumbs up regardless of the faults we think are in the game. i will hold my thumbs down before i see what they are expecting to ask for serious sam2. for some reason, my expectations of it will not be the same as the original because it never is.

so now there will be a few to say that alot of hard work goes into these games and i am sure there is but really, they are making the money on the first week the game is released. i would like to switch that up for a second and maybe have pthers look at it like this. no matter how much work is done to make any game, it will never match the amount of work for each person to work and pay for the game. i hope i explained that well but somewhere there is a point to what i just said.:o

i will look a little closer this year to money being spent on games. one thing for sure is i will start downloading the demos before making purchases to see if i am going to get bored of the game. that is my biggest mistake and should of done that with mohpa. i swear i wont even give the game away to let someone else play it.

ok that's enough of my crap, its been a crappy monday and i am in a bad mood.

yep.. I was thinking something a bit similar to this a while back. I've spent too much money on games myself! Ya, I think pc games are pretty much dead for me,(besides Sam), and a Gamecube might be the way to go. It's so portable and cheap! I'd probably get bored of that too, but who knows.

for HL2 - the price is right with the last cpu change i had. for the software piracy, there will always be piracy, but the whole steam scheme makes it impossible for someone to unknowing buy a pirated copy of the software, as it takes much more than the disks and a key generator in order to make the game playable. so i don't think this is directed at the people downloading the software who would not have bought it anyway, but to prevent real pirates who print disks and manuals and sell it as legitimate.

Nope.
I think the only pc game I bought last year was daoc, and I don't even play that anymore. Bought an X-box, (Halo2) and don't really care for it either.
:bawling:

Played a bunch of Demo's but nothing felt fun. I wouldn't pay $20 for the games that have come out on the last year.

i honestly bought hl2 cough* and....Well all and all i played for 5 hours straight got to ride a boat and a other thingy man ...never knew how long i had left to play to beat the game but i was completly fed up of it.It's in the trash now.
I give them credit for graphics and all but honestly all the graphics in the world would not cut it for me even if it were virtual and the same has tv graphics real people.

Same goes with doom3 actully doom3 was even worse you feel like a bar of iron in that game.
If the controls are slow and theres not that much to do well....it's boring.

To date utk3 or 4 ssse and quake3 tho i've barely played quake 3 are the only games i think have stylish kinda controls to them.

What i've always wondered in ssse is if croteam had actully planned all the ledge jumps in there game.

What's fun about the ledge jumps is that you DO have to be a good player or have played a lot to land them on a regular basis.

To awnser your queston about paying 50 bucks no i would not.

The only games that i bought were a game made by croteam not long ago actully i dont even remember the name. actully good will hunting i think,utk3 my bro bought utk4 and i'll probably buy ss2.

Btw never got to playing a lot of good will hunting btw hl2 was not THAT bad but...Still it took 5 hours for me and that was that.

I honestly didn't mind paying for Half-Life 2. Granted, 54 dollars is a ripoff, but if there was a game that was worth getting ripped off, that was it. I really liked both HL2 and Doom3 (though I played my bro's copy...i never bought Doom 3). Doom 3 is 33 bucks now @ Sam's, so i may buy it soon, b/c I felt it was worth it. There are a lot of new games that I definitely don't think are worth they sticker price. However, I'm sure there's someone that thinks just the opposite, and feels that Need For Speed Underground 2 is great and HL2 sucks, so who am I to talk?

Basically, if it's a solid game, I don't mind the 50 bucks, even though it's a ripoff. But I won't buy a game that I'm not VERY sure will rock. Then again, I've only been playing games, really, for about 2 years, so the prices have no elevated much since I started...

Besides, I figure if i put several hundred dollars into the Computer itself, it's worth 50 dollar games (if they're worth 50 dollars...)

To answer you first question, though, yes, I have had times where I cannot play single player Half Life 2 b/c the friggin' server is down, and yes, it really really makes me angry, but yes, the game was still worth being dubbed "The Most Expensive Game I Ever Bought"

if you are willing to pay $55 for something, then you don't think it is a ripoff. you are willing to meet the cost. obviously for doom3, you thought it was a ripoff at $55, but now you are willing at $33. the game makers will charge what the market will bear. like seeing a movie, you fork out some $15 for ticket and concessions and 2 hours of entertainment. (a movie which sucks in many cases....). For a game, you should get some 6 (if you are fast) to 15 to 25 hours of entertainment. Add the MP component, and that adds more value. So compared to movies, they are probably a better deal. of course if like you walk out of a movie, and uninstall the game after a couple of hours because it sucks well, then you got drywalled....

didnt read all of the above posts, just wanted to say, that the german consumer protection ?admonished? Publisher Vivendi Universal and Valve aswell, cause of 3 different points:

1. an english only license-text(not all germans understand english that well that they know whats going on in there)

2. not enough clarification about the needed internet connection

3. the missing ability to sell the game

they also adressed an action for injunction to both of them. if they sign the paper and dont change these above mentioned points , a fine of 6000 Euros per sold game is imminent.

hope its not to confusing, cause i had to translate it :( i found it on one of the greatest german gaming magazine websites. lets see what happends.

I have to agree with BIGG's about the rising costs. I've always been stingy with my gaming $$'s. I've found the only games that were really worth the money were the UT series, and SSSE which I think I paid $7 for.

Last year I dropped $40 on Tribes Vengeance and enjoyed it, but the problem was, after a month, 90% of the on-line players were original Tribes players and they just dominated. I bought Q-3 the year before, just to play with the Outlaws, but that only lasted 3 months.

I've found that research has helped me save quite a bit. Knowing players who have lots of throw away money and also like the same games you do hae saved me a ton of cash, Like Twitch telling me that Doom 3 "play the 1st 3 levels and you've pretty much played the whole game" and Jiminator kicking me early PK action also saved me some dough. Also, Gamespot has a ton of demos and trailers that have become a great resource ( saved me from DAOC, BF 1942)

I'm ging to be courious about the staying power of World Of Warcraft since that seams to be "The next Big Thing" ;)

I paid the Pound Sterling equivalent amount that you guys paid. I think it's worth it, just picking up on Jim's points.

I'm not happy with having to connect every time I play. The game itself is OK but nothing special. Sam gave me lots more fun.

CS seems pretty good and has the potential to be very good judging from the little I've played so far.

That's only 1/2 true...I wouldn't have had a problem buying it for 55...but college tuition came in and took every penny i had...guess I can't complain, though. Once college is over, I'll have a good job (crosses fingers) and I can afford to pay the price.

Movies also impact people's beliefs and ideas alot more than games do.
