Ouch, indeed. Not the score, but the dismissive tone of the reviewer, who sounds like he's a bit bored with the FPS genre. But, I know I don't want to spend $50 on a game I play once. If it's fun and engaging, I'm fine with it.

I agree, but from the tone of the review he sounds like its gonna get 46 let alone 76

It might be, yet. I think the ratings are often based on expectations as much as the overall "did I like it, was it fun". Daikatana was bashed bloody, as it was 4 years late or so, but I really enjoyed it. I'd have bought it, but I won it on a website; maybe that made it easier for me to like. I ended up having a couple of e-mails with John Romero himself about it, that was cool!

Gamespot gives it a 7.3, loved the graphics, and said it had the BEST (http://gamespot.com/gamespot/stories/screens/0,10865,2910117,00.html?page=4) terrified scientists!!

I'm on the 4th or 5th level right now. I got it yesterday. It's...well....ok.

Im not overly impressed. I thought it was going to be the next major game out there (before DOOM 3).

Kinda disappointed so far.

I'll keep you posted.

I had the same hopes, and I see a lot of people with similar takes on it. If you throw out the highs (it's great) and the lows (it's horrible) most of the response seems lukewarm. I'm playing through it now, too, just defended a tech salvaging info, and for some reason it doesn't captivate me the way Half-Life did, or even Undying or RTCW's SP mode. It is very beautifully drawn, though, IMO, and I'm having fun playing it through.

Don’t just listen to one (sites) opinion on a certain game.... compile at least 3 different sites reviews before coming to a conclusion :shifty:

This goes out to all games

Even then, I've liked games more than the average of reviews I've read, and less. I played through Daikatana, much-maligned, bashed, folded, spindled, and mutilated, and I actually liked it quite a bit. I did win the game at Avault, and got a shirt, and Thief2 as well, I don't know how much that affected me on it. I never even unwrapped Thief2, it just didn't appeal to me.
It's starting to grow on me, there is always plenty of ammo on my runs, although it irks me that I have to give up what I've collected on each mission(it's mine, I say, mine!), and the briefing makes me yawn, even with Aida, but they're trying to incorporate some NPCs, which is cool.

Congrats on winning those prizes. I have theift 2 aswell. It was a great game of its time. Just never had the time to actually get into it. It's still sitting on my selfs, aging day by day with the rest of the great ones.
