Well the tranny went out in my car a month or so ago, and ever since then i have been looking for a replacement, cuz selling the car is NOT an option. (this is why http://www.shoclub.com/SHO%20History/shoplus.html)

First i tride some salvage yards...found one for a 100 bucks from a car that had been rolled...going 140, but when the guy got the tranny out, he found that it had a cracked case, just like mine. No dice there. I went to the local mechanic, he found another one at a salvage yard and had his son go drive it the next day to listen it and see if it was alright, this one was 350 dollars, and was ALSO bad.

That leads us to where i am now...facing buying a 1500 dollar transmission, AND having to pay the cost to have it put in, totalling 2 grand in the end.

Sorry, just had to rant somewhere...

Have it rebuilt. average should be 1500 bucks. Which isn't bad. I highly dought that they will give you a new one for that amount.

I take it that this means that asking you if you wanna rent a house w/ me and matt next year is a futile question...

We'd be somewhere in either the Allendale area right next to school, or maybe the walker area, depending. Matt works by the airport, and we both wanna be near school, so it's not gonna be up Cedar/KC way.

if its an AXOD or AX4N you should just ask for that instead of a taurus SHO tranny. they're a pretty common transmission so one shouldnt be hard to find.
if your not sure what it is, there should be a cover on the drivers side of the transmission that will say AX__ on it in big stamped letters.

How did I know you'd have a comment to make? :P

At least I didn't use the word "roommate".

The bad news is that the 5 speed manual transaxle in the SHO is only used in the SHO.

Definately...I checked today at work too..The MTX used in the other FWD Fords those years is a lighter duty trans, the SHO has all different internals..nothing is compatible..

Should have written it down..I think the SHO is a MTX IV and the others ( Tempos and Escorts ) used a MTX III..don't hold me to it though, I'll double check tomorrow..

ok PJ

heres the best deal I found so far

a good take out 34000 mile no core charge 500 + freight
he thinks it cable shift but you should be able to change your shift levers or top cover if you need rod.
call Tom @ 2&92 truck parts in IL 1-800-824-4564
tell him Fran from TransAxle told you to call

Don't get me started on Mercury Mystiques.... They are pieces of junk. Look up reliability reports on the Mystiques. If you enjoy transmission trouble, then you'll be right at home. ;) And yes....I know from experience.
