modify background Gimp2

Hi guys!

Okay I would like to use Gimp2 to change the background of a pic. On the front we can see a wolf and the background is a forest, would like to change the forest to something else. The prob is I really don't know how to proceed. Im new with such stuff

As far as what to do, I'd say cut/copy the wolf out of the picture and just put him in the new background - that link covers how to get a good cut of the wolf.
