Croteam has already released a patch for the retail version of Sam 2. This patch does the exact same things that the demo patch released last week did, but this is for the retail release.

You can download the patch here: http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=28962

They go YEARS without a patch for a screwed up game that was out and now suddenly they can release a patch for a game that hasn't even hit the shelves. That's hilarious! :funny:

What's more disturbing is that all of these issues that were in the demo were also in retail. These are things the most basic beta would have caught. The reason they are fixing them is because of the backlash from the demo.

Also, what the hell is with the trend of releasing patches before games are even out? First B&W2 and now this. How about you make sure the game actually works before shipping it?

Maybe they are just trying to get off the hook with their patches. They had so many complaints about when the patch was coming out for SSSE, they figured they would put one out before they even released the game.

There's fairly obvious reasons why this likely isn't the case, but I pose the question anyway - Why do you act surprised that you're not part of some beta for Serious Sam II when all you do is bad-mouth Croteam all the time? If you were a developer and a specific group of people constantly trash-talked you for years on end, would you then extend a significant courtesy to them?

As a developer, I welcome trash talkers to beta tests because most of the time they are the best testers (they try to break EVERYTHING). And frankly, it's a chance to save sales if your product can stand up to the scruitiny. Sorry Rod, but that argument doesn't hold up.

This site and most of its members have always supported Croteam up until recently. The two people from here that were invited to the beta, Dangerous Dan and I, have never said or done anything that would leave Croteam to believe that we didn't support them. I only started recently criticizing them once the demo was released...and rightfully so.

In fact, for the past 3 years I have traded emails with Goran and other members of Croteam talking about ideas for Sam 2, issues, and many other subjects on a regular basis.

I think the obvious reason there was not a beta is that this was a rushed product. Leaving DM on the cutting room floor, the lack of a beta, the disappointing demo, the patch before it even hits store shelves, and the parts of the setup that were obviously taken from an xBox port all point to it.

You can't honestly tell me that 3-6 more months of development wouldn't have resulted in a better product. But of course, business rules in the gaming industry and if they released any later, they run into a ton of AAA titles, or miss the XMas shopping season.

I look forward to reading the reviews, and also writing our own. Regardless of what impressions people may already have, I'll be walking into it with a completely clean slate and will be honest, one way or another.

In addition to what DE said, I also know first-hand what it feels like to develop and release commercial applications. But I also know that after months of designing and developing, our developers would rather have me and Psi beta test the product instead of having our customers find the bugs for us.

Since I haven't slept in 30 hours this is going to be brief:

- Croteam is the developer
- 2K Games is the publisher
- 2K Games has the money -> 2K Games makes the rules

- Whether or not you personally have been unbiased in your actions for the past X years was never brought up.

- Croteam is the developer
- 2K Games is the publisher
- 2K Games has the money -> 2K Games makes the rules

- What *was* brought up was that the same people who complain and belittle Croteam almost as if it were a hobby are those who are also bringing up the fact that they were promised a beta and should've been given one etc etc etc...

- Croteam is the developer
- 2K Games is the publisher
- 2K Games has the money -> 2K Games makes the rules

- Just because you brought up the fact that you "should've" had a beta copy does not mean that you have been talking trash for X years. That's a logical fallacy and it's reading way too far into a simple message.

- 2K Games is the publisher

I think most people know that 2K Games is the publisher and was most likely pushing Croteam hard during development. As for the beta, I couldn't care less if I'm included or not, I just wanted them to have one so that Sam fans had a better product to play.

Anyways, Rod I read your review and was wondering if you had a final score. Also, does co-op work out of the box over the net? Since the patch looks to fix the same problems that the demo had, I'm assuming it doesn't.

Sorry Bigg, but I had to delete that post. The personal attacks went just a bit too far. Can we keep this thread on track about Sam 2? If anyone has personal problems with other people, please remember our rule of taking it to PMs.

Picked it up at Gamestop today. They had 5 copies, 4 were reserved.
Buh bye....I'm off to play....:D

EDIT: this game rocks.......do not use the demo to judge it.....the only reason I am posting is because I have two PC's....just stopped playing long enough to say that the game is worth the $.....and funnier than Hell!

I doubt that many hardcore SS:SE DM players will go out and buy this after playing the demo. (myself included) I was quite dissapointed when I saw and played the game, yet I always kept in mind that this game was not made just for me. It was made for the general gaming public, which is huge! Kids, teens, and even some adults will see this on the shelf and buy it. Because IMO they think about the quality of the product off hand. Its got bright visuals, tons of enemies, a plethora of levels, weapons, inside humor and it SEEMS fun.

I've never bad mouthed SSII - but if you're talking about the community, then i guess i'm guilty by association (which i thought we were over, look back in your Private Messages with me and read what you said to me, let's just move on, we're both part of different communities but we're independent minds). If you look into my threads you'll see that i was one of the few ppl willing to give Serious Sam 2 a chance for what it was, not what it wasn't. I've never belittled Croteam, in fact i'm always the first person in the room to stick up for them - many a time a friend has asked me why the patch wasn't released, or better yet, why SS2 was so late, I've always defended Croteam, understanding their size, dynamics, and especially their unique background and herritage. So to say that I am one of the ppl that continually stomp on the Croteam name is absured.

here's my side of it, and why i made the comment about not recievingthe beta: Croteam sent me an email asking me to give them my information so they could send me the beta as promised (about a month ago now). I sent them my information to them, and i never heard back. Consequently, I just assumed that since I hadn't recieved anything back, they never kicked off the beta.

and there you have it
