It's finally been released! Yeah! A note of caution: Activision, or ID, or raven - one of them - said that this demo hasn't been tested and isn't "official"...the official one will be out next week sometime. However, this demo has run fine for me so far (and has impressed me).

Ah..I buy games for SP, and if the MP is good all the better...so I didn't even both w/ the MP.

Well, the official one will be out early next week.

MP still feels like its in beta in the atual game. Seeing as how Raven hasn't actually released an officical patch addressing the majror bugs. I personally like the direction the game is headed but I feel that things like movement and the overall speed isn't as free as Quake 3. Feels like they increased the gravity and reduced the physics.

Thanks for the heads up, Bob.

DL'ed it and my MP works, but there are hardly any servers with decent ping for me from California. Didn't play enough to encounter any bugs, but I was relatively smooth at 640x480 with my 1 GB RAM/Athlon 2500+/ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, which was better than I expected from the system requirements.

This appears to be the real release:

I found it to be a very enjoyable game as i liked having bots around that actually help.

But I must say IMHO, I think it would have been wiser to push out a demo before the actual release

I always wonder...couldn't a demo very much be a curse just as much as a blessing? I mean, there are lots of folks that will wait for a demo (me), and once they've seen and tested, and are impressed, will buy...just like they would have purchased if the demo was pre-release...the only thing that happens is that the funds are delayed for a couple months.

However, there are a TON of Quake junkies that will purchase it opening day b/c it has the word "Quake" on the box...but what if those people pre-test and decide "this isn't so good...i shant be buying this."

I honestly think any company with a pre-existing fanbase probably benefits more from a delayed demo than a pre-release...I think the pre-release demos benefit upstart games/companies most.

I played on a demo server last night and it was Q3 flashbacks. Fast paced and a lot of fun. If you want good DM I'd recommend Q4.
