Hah. Really is amazing how fast games evolved. I mean we went from 8-bit 2D sidescrollers to fully 3-D MMORPG's that have lush terrain, highly detailed structures, and awesome battle effects in just 25 years.

Not to mention the nearly unlimited size of the maps now. WoW maps are vritually endless. There is no zoning unless you enter an instance. Or flee from one, lol. I thought that was very impressive. Zoning in FFXI was rather tedious. Although it did give you escape routes. I suppose WoW does that too because mobs will only chase you a certain distance before giving up and returning to their normal spots.
