I think we should have one last go at a tournament.. However, this time I think we should have pairs, or teams combat another team. The winner of each match, climbing up a ladder, until the two final teams face off. I also think that we should have it setup like the world cup, where a team can lose a match and not necessarily be out of the tournament. They would just move a step down the ladder and there would be cut offs.

Basically, I think a really complicated tournament that requires lots of effort and strategy would be fun to kick this year off. I think that Euro and N. American pings should be seperated accordingly so there can't be any complaining.. As in, Euro vs Euro and American vs. American.

Each team would have the same skin and be able to choose one level. As far as a server goes, I think the matches would be small enough to have just one or two people host them. Each match would begin AFTER a 10 frag warm up. In the warm up, players can make sure the server runs well and also obviously get a feel for their opponent. I can't stress the importance of strategy. Sacrificing your teammate for bate and then taking the other two players out would be an example. First to 20?

Anyway, you get the picture. Anyone up for this? I think it'd be fun to get the old timers back out. I'm not even guranteeing that this will go through, merely that we should look into it before 2007 starts. :)

Well for one thing I'm glad that merkwannabe has returned and decided to mark his return with this announcement. I would be very interested in participating. Lets just hope we can get enough USA teams since there seem to be very few American players that are active and are on the same skill level as the Euro player are.

I would love to see past players make a comeback to ssam and actually participate in the event. Unfortunately I just don't see that happening. I love ssam with all my heart and I still play almost daily but it's become less of a game of proving oneself as much as it has become a game of winning. That might not make too much sense but what I'm getting at is that since there has been a drastic decrease in overall clan activity in ssam, consequentially the competitive aspect has disappeared as well.

Oh well if you need any help at all setting this up feel free to ask me. We could start a tourney forum and start getting a list of player, preferred servers, preferred maps, and preferred team combinations.

If you don't have that and still want to play then you cannot moan about connection, lag, ping etc.

Thats an even better idea. That way there really is no added handicap or disadvantage. Perhaps we should set the difficulty to normal so that there will be less whining about missed shotty frags. Even if I would have to forfeit my pistols I'd rather have a fair, long, game without "cheap" frags. On the other hand, if both teams used nades and rockets than that would go against the point of using the normal difficulty. It's up to the players and those participating need to vote on this sort of stuff.

I'd be happy to pair up with you DH since I really don't care about winning after I've played a few solid matches. You are great with the shotty and don't spam nearly as much as the other players do.

So could we get some forums set up so we can start sorting this whole thing out.

This is looking great. I've been busy with school,(I just finished today, so I'll be able to help out now).. I would just like to add that this was mostly Phoenix's idea. I hope the attention whore is satisfied that I gave him props.

Anyway, I'd like to thank Die Hard for all the effort he's putting into this. I'd also like to say that my original post was only meant to be an idea so if it's not good, by all means let's change it. This should be a group thing. Afterall, we haven't had a good tourney in quite some time. I just think strategy,(ex:teams, levels, techniques), and minimal opportunities to complain,(ie:similar pings), should be heavily looked into.

Well from my experience in the past there has been a ton of bitching and whining during matches in regards to playing styles, spam, camping, and pups. I think we need to set down some solid rules in order to avoid this and have a fun and fair match between two teams of two.

Here are some possible rules to consider:
1.)I think points should be deducted for obvious camping (staying more than 20 seconds in one spot). It gets very annoying especially when the player is spamming which brings me to my next rule.

2.)Points should be taken off for blatant spamming say launching a minimum of 5-10 grenades randomly throughout the map. Rockets are ok because they travel on a vector and are easy to avoid if you can determine their POI (place of impact) .

3.)NO PUPS! This goes without saying.

4.) The server we play on should have a 10 second invulnerability spawn to reduce the spawn frags.

5.) No talking mid game. You can say "LOL" or "Nice Shot" after being fragged but don't expect a response since the player that is still alive is trying to not get killed. You can chat all you want during the warmup but afterwards it should be near complete silence.

6.) If you get F9ed you get to keep all of your previous frags/points just be sure to connect right away (within 1 minute) or the match will continue without you after that minute is up.

7.) Don't intentionally leave mid-game. This shows that you take the game too seriously and can't get a grip on your emotions when playing.

8.) Don't use any hacks/cheats or game modifications that would give you an advantage over the opposition (this includes the lightbulb hack).

Thats all I could think of for now. What do you all think?

Well in my opinion freedom in serious sam has been taken too far. You've seen what Candy Ass does. He takes his freedom too far and makes the game a living hell for the good players. I just want to ensure that there will be a fair match without any nuisances and explicit remarks towards those nuisances. These rules should be imposed for the same reason that there are rules imposed in every sport. All we would need to make sure that no one breaks the rules is a referee join the server as an observer. This way everyone can have fun without costing anyone else their fun.

Rules are made to balance the odds.

Exe isn't good at figuring out rules that actually should be used, like the good rules we had in previous GM tourneys which should be the ones used.

Well I never wanted my rules to be official. You can add or take away certain ones. I just wanted to set down a basic framework, it's up to you to improve it as you see fit.

Just wait till Gaylo 3...err sorry Halo 3 comes out I bet it will get even bigger. By then most gamers will have 360's since the price is sure to drop in 2007 on both versions.

Good luck with your tourneys. I watched a couple Halo 2 matches on the USA channel and it looked pretty intense. I still favor the mouse keyboard combo over the analog sticks and buttons.

Console gaming will be taking off next year. As long as players want to participate and people are willing and sponsors are willing to shell out the cash then you can bet that your monetary needs will be satisfied as long as you remain a good player.

But whenever you feel like coming back to us old-timers in ssam feel free, you are always welcome for an ass kicking. :D

Just wait till Gaylo 3...err sorry Halo 3 comes out I bet it will get even bigger. By then most gamers will have 360's since the price is sure to drop in 2007 on both versions.

Good luck with your tourneys. I watched a couple Halo 2 matches on the USA channel and it looked pretty intense. I still favor the mouse keyboard combo over the analog sticks and buttons.

Console gaming will be taking off next year. As long as players want to participate and people are willing and sponsors are willing to shell out the cash then you can bet that your monetary needs will be satisfied as long as you remain a good player.

But whenever you feel like coming back to us old-timers in ssam feel free, you are always welcome for an ass kicking. :D
