yeah guys sam the 2nd encounter anyways , runs just great on vista . better than xp coz vista automatically optimizes ur internet connections and therefore gives u real good pings. try it and see. btw this is only thing i have found vista to be "good" for so far, lol.

That is great to hear. I'll be building a Vista system later this year. I'll probably follow an online review and use the same hardware as the review. That way I'll be sure to avoid all the driver problems. I was a bit worried I'd lose my dear old Sam and would have to dual boot with XP.

The driver problem is exaggerated for the most part, and will certainly be a non-issue if you're waiting another 4-6 months before building.
You're only gonna get issues if you have some weird hardware. DE mentioned an incompatibility with a sound card, but it was a very high-end, user specific card that you'd never use.
When i installed Vista, it had an nvidia driver in it already. Nvidia and ATI both have working drivers (except for nvidia SLI in vista). Creative has drivers as does realtek, so there's like 95 percent of the average user's soundcards (or mobo sound cards). Many mobos have them as well - you might not be able to get it from the maker (i couldn't get it from ASUS) but there will most likely be one from the chipset maker (Nvidia had mine, as I had an nForce4 chipset).
Even if there are issues, though, they'll be gone in 6 months. As you're looking for hardware, just visit the site of the hardware and make sure there's drivers before you purchase anything.

I've heard it works for some people and for others it doesn't.

well, it doesn't work on the new comp, it's just gets all 5 frames per second and craps out. it's an Athlon dual core 2.2, geforce 6100 (motherboard integrated, should work fine), 2gb ram. i've tried backwards commpatibity mode, but no success.

from what I have read and heard, fps games work crappy on Vista. The problem is that there is no backward compatibility in the direct x which hinders the performance. I would say it is a safe bet that if you want to play yesterdays games, do so on XP. Anything new should be Vista ready.

Not only FPS. Even NHL 07 (pretty new game, relased fall 2006) don't work well with Vista... for anyone.

i don't get it, at this point, what's the point of even owning Vista? Sure Crysis looks sweet, but it's only one game.

There's also Halo 2 which has a fanbase that rivals that of WoW. And Shadowrun which will probably become quite popular if it lives up to its hype. Vista has a neat new look and supposedly has a ton of other improvements over XP but those things will not be fully realized until all of the bugs are worked out. Just read some Vista reviews. Here (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/features/default.mspx) is an official list of features if you are interested.

I think everyone should just buy an XBOX 360 and play their games on that and get a Linux distro of Mac OSX and use their computer for everything else and let Bill Gates beg for money on the corner of Malcolm X Blvd and 8th

One optiont that you have is to download the free Virtual PC 2007.
Using that, you can create a virtual copy of XP. Then when you feel like playing the old game, you just boot up your virtual XP and play trough that. This will only work on moderately old games, since you'll see lag ona high-end game, but it's worth trying.

Sincerely, if I have to do this work, I won't play OLD games... If my Vista supports old 98-99s games, good for me, otherwise... lol the fact is that I'm lazy :P
