This is actually a question from a friend of mine:
I was running nt and tried to insatll xp.
When i reboot it gives you an option to run nt or xp?
If I choose to run nt the screen goes blank. If i choose xp it asks the same question again and so on?
Any help would be appreciated.

Dual booting NT and XP.... that's a new one for me. Sounds like it's time for a repair install or something. Personally, I would just lose the NT partition. That OS is soooo last century.

Well thats the point, he wants to lose NT and have XP instead but he keeps having the problem described above?

I think you need to go into your bios and set where to boot from, ie your C drive or cd/dvd drive.
Oh, and make sure the system has enough memory to be running XP. :)

Sounds to me that the boot.ini file is corrupt.
A quick fix is pull the drive out and put it into another system to inspect files and structure. Does it have a winnt foler or a windows folder.
You can delete one of the lines in the boot.ini file that relates to nt.
You can also copy a boot.ini file onto the drive after renaming the old one boot.old.
You need to inspect this so you can see where it is loading from.
I am curious though this is winxp pro upgrade correct?
