View Full Version : The end for XP

what now?
On the 31. January 2008, XP should die out officially.OEM-Versionen before-installed, there can be only then after Vista. Already today, there is only few PC's with XP as operating system. Mostly, Vista Home already is installed.
At the latest 2009, the matter with XP then ate itself at the 31. January, a plain System-Builder program appears that an end-line then moves.
I would like to know now whatdo you think about this situation.

That's correct, don't call him out.
That was hard as hell to read, and I'm at a total loss as to where your facts came from.
Vista has taken over and hardly anyone has XP? Where did you get that?
As far as I know, XP is still selling better than Vista, and even if XP was no longer being sold, no way has Vista already overtaken XP.
According to this site: http://vista.blorge.com/2007/07/27/avoid-vista-keep-xp-and-wait-for-windows-7/
Vista holds a whopping 4.52% share of the market compared to XP's 84.33%! Holy Crap! THe Vista invasion has begun! They just announced that they're increasing XP production by 50% and decreasing Vista by 8%.
Unless you're talking about the OS preinstalled on new computers, which you didn't indicate whatsoever. I still wouldn't say "very few XP to almost all vista". Almost any major PC maker is giving you the choice (Dell, HP, Acer, etc) and numbers indicate that the majority want XP. I mean, all of them had taken XP off and have now reinstated it because of demand.
Also, it was announced in September that XP discontinuation would be moved back from Jan 08 to Jun 08, and another move wouldn't surprise me at all. (http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2007/09/28/xp_to_remain_on_shelves_until_june_08/1)

Agreed with US mates.
I also will be using XP cos I've heard from some of my friends that vista sucks and that vista is ok. I'm good with XP so I'm gonna stick with it. ;)

I'm using XP until forever until Linux finally persuades me want to make a move permanently.

Really in a years time so many things on the software front can change. Linix can become the leading desktop OS by then. Microsoft can fix Vista and listen to the market along with the people who make the market such as us the customer. Apple can be the top dog also as they are suppose to be getting games made for their platform. There is so much time in between and I will stick with XP for now and brush up on Linux. Open source seems to be gaining a lot of momentum. People are fed up with the agreements that has been implemented in WIndows. Hell even XP has become DRM infected along with the so many applications being sold for the OS. This is where Vista fails. For the average user, Visat is like sliced bread but for the above average we will do what we need to to get work done.
Vista is NSA's OS and Bill gates will see the impact of those who refuse to buy into it. We have yet to touch what can be and will be done by computers. MS has the market currently but as more and more people become aware and intelligent of the operating systems available, things will change 10 years down the line. Most people don't even know how to use WIndows so I see nothing different at learning say Linux as their OS. I would definetly offer a linix distro to a person that just want there e-mail or internet browsing as a putpose for a computer.
As far as the english goes, it was bad but readable. It gets hard sometimes tring to figure out what the message is but I won't gripe as if the shoe was on the other foot, I would be unable to get a sentence out on a forum that was not in english.

I could read it, Erazor ur getting better at english ;)
Also now i don't think vista is the major OS now, Xp still dominates it but well in the future Vista has potential if all the bugs are fixed and it becomes more user friendly. I think its kinda easy to use, and i love its layout its so beautiful.

you think it's just the bugs that keep people away? Why don't you google vista and see what others are saying. Ignorance is no exception.

well, from what i heard "bugs" are a major issue for Vista and many of my friends/family say they will wait another year or so until Vista is "bug free". I also read lots of articles about the bugs in vista and how sound drivers were not installed, graphic card issues ect. I know there are other issues too but this is the only issue i know about why people are staying away from vista :)

WOWOW omg that looks so cool lol. I love how when u close a window in linux it like poofs away. And i love that jello affect when u move a window OMG. But wouldn't this be a major system hog? It must take up alot of memory to do all that.

You would love to live near me when I throw out stuff. I just don't have the room. I think that installing in on an old computer is a great ida and it will advance you with learning. I myself need to get back in to the mix but getting older seems to mean less time for anything. The only reason I come to this forum is to rest and not work.
Also did you ever take those extra sticks of ram out of your system? I think Imentioned to you that you are crippling your system that way. DO some benchmarks with just two matched sticks of ram and them bench it with your current config.
Do yourself a favor and download this cpu-z

Take some screenshots of each tab and post them here. I will show you.

Ok just so you know your system is not running in dual channel mode the way you have your memory configed. The memory is also not running in 400MHz. Make note of the frquency. Also your memory is running at 2t mode which will slow you down a bit. Your system is still fast enough I am sure and probably did not notice much but overall you are probably slowing your system down 5%-8%. It all depends what you do with your system.
Look for a program called sandra lite which can do some benchmarks including memory bandwidth. Test the way your system is and then test withjust the 1 gig stick in. also take screenies of cpuz with just one stick in. That's a decent board you have there. I gave one to a friend. Your bios looks a bit old as well and may want to update it.

yeah but updating bios is a scary prosess for me last time i did that i messed up..but now adays their flash. the other stick of pny 1 gig is about $110 right now at best buy but i'm sure i could find the same one online for cheeper or maybe i'll go with some corsair, i donno depends on the budget. i may just buy a new system this board is a little old, alltho the guy i bought it from is begging me to buy it back he got a new asus board the one with all the copper heatsinks with pretty snowfakes on it and he said my board outperforms that one anyday :D maybe i'll put my system up for sale haha what would you say this would go for?
and i know i'm not runnign in dual channel i don't have the money for another 1 gig stick, btw everything you just told me i already knew :D sorry to burst your bubble, the only thing i'm not up to date on is video cards maybe i'll do a bit of reserch. i dont understand the pixle pipelines and all that mumbo jumbo hehe.

Umm I have pretty little snow flakes onmy heatsink (google my board) and I would have to say it depends on the processor.
As you the chipset is about the same in performance and no need to update it. The only difference is the memory and socket for the chip and if you compare the cpu t socket 939 will be faster than am2 cpu. the problem is you can not put the new phenom chip in a 939 board. Does that matter? No because you can get a dual core chip with a high clock speed for both. I say just buy some memory and let your system be. the difference is small and at this time there is no need to change anything.

alrighty maybe a dual core prosessor too?
