So I finally got another Camera for Christmas and have yet to fool around with it. Yes I am that guy who has stuff and hardly uses it. I have been using my Sony DV camera for many years which still works great but I wanted to get a camera that supported higher resolutions considering the realization that we are headed that way and probablymost of us are watching television on a HD capable unit. I also wanted to get a camera that had a Hard drive built in so I can just pull the content on to computer for edit.

The problem which I knew would be is the lack of support for this format. It pisses me off that my very expensive editing suites such as Avid and Adobe CS3 do not support this unless I use another application to covert the files into the supporting formats of the suite. I like the new Adobe CS3 suite but I am pretty pissed off that suck a big company has yet to support this new format. I hate to have to take the extra steps to covert the footage into supporting formats which will take a lot of time.

I am considering trying out the new Sony software which I just hate the Company regardless of their hardware being so good. I honestly don't trust them for their past. I have Studio 11 which I have yet to install and know their products are decent. I just don;t understand how a 100 dollar program (on sale at Bestbuy) will support this format while my 1600.00 CS3 suite does not.

Anyone familar with this or have experience please let me know. I plan on using this weekend to re do all of my machines and clean my computer lab which is nothing less than a disaster. Between the 7/11 coffee cups and computer parts all over the place I am ready to just burn the room.

All responses appreciatted.

From Wikipedia. The following software is compatible with the AVCHD format.

* Apple's Final Cut Express 4, Final Cut 6.01, CyberLink's PowerDirector 6, Sony Vegas 7.0e, Vegas Pro 8, and Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 8, Corel's Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus, Corel's Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5, Pinnacle's Studio Plus 11, Avid Xpress Pro and Avid Media Composer, Canopus' EDIUS Pro 4.5.
* Nero 7 Ultra Edition Enhanced and Nero 8 Ultra Edition are a software suites which contains the AVCHD editor, found in Nero Vision. Also included in this suite is Nero Showtime, which plays AVCHD files natively. Edited video can also be burned to DVD discs in AVCHD format for playback on hardware players or in Blu-ray format.
* iMovie '08 allows you to convert AVCHD to the Apple Intermediate Codec format, but does not support AVCHD directly.
* Other developers have pledged their support but it may still take some time for the implementation.

I would definitely go with Sony Vegas. It's great software. Easy to use and very versatile.
