Best movie(s) you have ever seen? This thread might been done earlier also, but i wanna ask it now. :P

I think the best movie i've seen is the Predator from 1987. It's a classic. I like movies like that. It's very exciting, especially when you watch it for the first time.

So that's my opinion, tell me yours and please explain why. :)

It's hard for me to answer this, since it depends on my mood and can certainly change.

Some of my favourites would be 'Snatch' for a more quality action movie.
For a straight up no-brainer action movie maybe something like Die Hard.

Comedy would be probably Animal House or Airplane or My Cousin Vinny.

For a thinking type movie it might be The Usual Suspects.

Pulp Fiction and The Usual Suspects would probably head my list, along with The Dark Knight.

Idiocracy and The Darjeeling Limited are a couple comedies that are pretty high up on my list that are lesser known, with Airplane and Spaceballs being some well-known comedies that rank high on my list.

It's not exactly what I would call one of the best movies of all time, but very high up on the list of what I would consider "Best movie hardly anyone has ever heard of and/or seen" would be Suicide Kings.

Really, really good flick with a pretty decent cast (Christopher Walken as a Mob Boss, Dennis Leary as his hit man, a cast of other B/C list guys).

I suggest checking it out.

Well Total Recall kinda reminds me of Jiminator. Very unpredictable but not without a hint of humor.

The film itself is a bit of a genre bender mixing horror, sci-fi, and action. If you had seen the film in the 90's I think that it would leave quite a shocking impression. Nowadays only about half of the scenes would strike the average movie-goer as being f#*$ked up.

BTW Bingo: I will definitely check out Suicide Kings. Judging by the trailer the movie has a solid plot.

total recall was a great sci-fi flick, some really good twists, never mind that it had ahhnold in it. My criteria for great movie is one that I would see again. with so much shit coming out of hollywood they are few and far between.

oh, for humor add to the list shaolin soccer and kung fu hustle. I've watched these two many times with my family and it is a blast each time.

Sounds and looks very nice piece of movie. I definately am going to check it out and Pulp Fiction too, since many of you say it's one of the best. :) Oh and this Total Recall sounds interesting too. :p

Best horror flick seen in a few years - The Descent.

Great thing about Idiocracy is that it's got electrolytes... it's what they use to make Brawndo! Darjeeling has been consuming megabytes on my hard drive for months. Must get to it now.

Also second Bingo's (my new arch nemesis) shout out for Suicide Kings. Solid film with a great cast. It's got a remarkably similar vibe to flicks like Poolhall Junkies and in particular Knockaround Guys, so check those out if you're of a mood.

"Two weeks!" As for Total Recall, i re-watched that the other night and it holds up nicely. Despite its popularity it has quite the underrated script. Also love that it's a hard R - Arnie really cuts loose verbally as well as physically! I miss him. Oh, and who can forget that midget chick leaping onto the bar and opening up with a sub-machine gun? Bloody awesome.

Jess - Leon and Big Blue? Ok, i forgive you for your Batman Forever post. These two are goddamn masterpieces, especially Big Blue AKA the closest you will ever get to watching a goddamn lucid dream. BEAUTIFUL FILM! Luc Besson needs to stop producing gobshite and hop back in the director's chair. While there, he can resuscitate Jean Reno's career...

The Court scene in AFGM and the final scene in The Usual Suspects are my 2 favorite scenes in any movie, as far as I can think of. Both are just awesome.

Here's an extract from johnny got his gun
its about a soldier who was almost killed by a morter on the last day of WW1
he is left with no limbs, teeth, tounge, jaw, eyes, nose, mouth, ears, or anything other than a torso and head really.
The docters think that he is incapable of feeling and thought (effectively brain dead) but he is infact completly alive and has only his thoughts and the vibrations from the floor to keep him company.
He is left in the same bed for decades, untill he realises he can comunicate via morse code by tapping his head. Which is where this scene leads off:

Its not available to buy (as for as i know) as metallica own the rights to it
(they wanted to use scenes from it in their music video to "one", which is based on the movie, and realised it would be cheaper just to buy rights to the whole film rather than the scenes)
