It's a standard feature of World War II-themed video games like Electronic Arts' best-selling "Medal of Honor" series: In multiplayer sessions, while some players take the roles of Allied troops, the other half wind up playing as soldiers of the Third Reich. Now EA's next "Medal of Honor" release is set to up the discomfort factor that comes with such an option. Set in modern-day Afghanistan, it will allow users to play as the Taliban.

On one hand I don't care but on the other and like I added to the title, it is different that it is pushing the envelope because a current war is being used and it might be wrong or too soon .... having said that, i'm not sure when the proper amount of time is.
Anyways, it's just a game and I always play for the US of A or I don't play and to borrow a line from Uncle Nuge .... "It's going to be a target rich environment" and I love to see the pink mist that comes from a properly placed headshot.

There was a game about the war in Iraq that was cancelled, not because you could play as the opposition to the US troops but because it was deemed "too real".
Here's an article.

The problem here will be that you can't always play USA, the roles are based on where the players start on the map and so they alternate in the same way that BC2 will alternate between russians and usa.

author of that article was a moron. "Gamers are scoffing at the decision, saying that advanced technology has made it commonplace in the gaming world to let a player switch sides and play the bad guy."
what is that secret "advanced technology" ? can it be used by our armed forces to infiltrate enemy camps? People want to know.
