I never got the chance to finish this game, and I'd really like to. If you've got it and would like to get it off your hands (I'm not paying a ton for it - it's q1 after all), drop me a PM.

Actually, I just found out that there's an "Ultimate Quake" set being released for 19.99 w/ quake 1,2 and 3 in it. Of course, I own 2 copies of Quake 2 already and a copy of Quake 3, but if I can get me quake 1 finally, I might just pay 19.99 for it.
How ironic. Yesterday was the 10th year anniversary of the Quake series since on June 1996 the first Quake was released.

Source code doesn't imply that they have released all the maps with it. The source code is for the engine(s) which is outdated compared to today's Doom 3, and Source engines.
It's mainly for modders and independent gave developers who want to intergrate a pre-made engine into their game to eliminate the need to create an engine.
Several stand-alone games which use one of the Quake engines have already been made. Check out Warsow (http://www.warsow.net/), it's semi-popular with the old school Q3 players.
My advice to bob is to either buy the collector's edition and have it for sentimental gamer value or I can pick up Q1 at a local game store (assuming no one has bought it) 10 minutes away and ship it to you for free.
