Akira!

Just watched this great anime. I was blow away by the quality of animation and the overall feel of the movie. It looked and felt real without any of the trademark flashy animation or campy effects and made it seem like it was years ahead of its time. The story was interesting with its general themes of power and friendship as well as deeper themes like the beginning of life, and what it means to be a human. I also loved the characters.

Has anyone else seen Akira and if so what you think when you first saw it and can you recommend some other anime movies? I've also seen Princess Mononoke which I enjoyed as well.

i think i saw Akira a while back, you would probably like things like Spirited Away and Paprika

Also, for realisome you can't go wrong with something like Ghost In The Shell

Akira is an old classic anime that boosted the anime viewing community. Indeed an awesome movie.

I seen it a long time ago. I haven't watched it in years. The movie has a grimy feel to it but it's still a good movie over all.
